Herbal and Alternative Remedies for
Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that affects about 1% of the
American population, or about 2.1 million people. Of those affected, 70% of
them are women. Children and men can develop this disease as well though, and
men are usually affected by it more severely.
Rheumatoid arthritis is basically an inflammation of the lining of the joints
in your body. Over time this inflammation can lead to joint damage, chronic
pain, and loss of mobility. Modern day science has no cure for this disease,
and standard treatments usually involve dealing with the symptoms. There are
herbs and herbal remedies which often help with arthritis too though, so we'll
look at several of those here.
1. White Willow - This herb is where aspirin and other modern day pain
relievers came from. This a natural pain reliever
and anti-inflammatory herb
which can safely be used internally or externally without the side effects of
its synthetic counterparts.
White willow can be taken orally for pain as needed. It can also be mixed with
aloe vera juice or mineral water and applied to the painful joints as needed.
Both methods will help reduce inflammation and pain. Be sure to buy 100% white
willow herb though, and not some synthetic medication which has a little white
willow added to it.
2. Burdock - This herb is an excellent choice for dealing with
arthritis. It helps reduce the swelling of joints and knuckles, plus it breaks
down calcification deposits. Burdock should be taken internally for the best
effects. It can also be used externally to help reduce swelling.
3. Chaparral - This is an herb which has been used specifically for
arthritis through the generations. It helps relieve pain, purify the blood,
and tone the body by rebuilding new tissue.
4. Lobelia - This herb is best known for its relaxation properties, but
it helps with arthritis because it increases the flow of oxygenated blood
through your system, which promotes healing. Lobelia can also help remove
obstructions and congestion located throughout the body.
5. Valerian Root - This herb is another one which is quite useful for
relieving pain. It also helps quiet and calm the nerves, plus it helps you to
sleep at night with no narcotic effects.
6. Comfrey - Quite possibly one of the best herbs to use for arthritis,
because it can help relieve pain and start healing on contact. Rubbing comfrey
salve onto the affected joints will help relieve the pain and inflammation,
and can start helping them to heal over time.
