Natural Headache Remedies
Many people have become a bit hesitant to take over the counter or
prescription medications for headaches these days, because of new evidence
that shows how dangerous some of these drugs can be. If you're one of those
people, you may be glad to hear there are many herbal and natural remedies for
headaches that work quite well, and are much safer too. The number one herbal
pain reliever is White Willow, and in fact, this herb was the basis for
today's modern over the counter aspirin and prescription NSAID medications.
Pure white willow does not have the same side effects and dangers that over
the counter and prescription NSAIDs have though. It can safely be given to
children and teenagers without fear of causing Reyes Syndrome, it does not
thin the blood, and it doesn't irritate the stomach either. White willow is an
anti-inflammatory herb, which means it relieves pain by reducing the
inflammation causing that pain.
White willow works well for almost any kind of headache, including migraines.
There are a few other herbs which are known to work specifically well for
migraines too, though. Combining Fenugreek with Thyme for instance - Thyme
being the common seasoning many people use in their kitchens - is an excellent
remedy for migraine headaches. This herbal combination is excellent for
stopping the pounding, throbbing and nausea which often comes with migraines. Fenugreek and Thyme combined also work extremely well for treating sinus
related headaches, because they help pull the mucus while also relieving the
headache pain.
Many headaches are caused by an illness, or toxins and bacteria in the body,
though. These can be treated with a variety of standard herbal remedies
often used for infections, sickness and general immune boosting purposes.
Cayenne, for instance, is an herb which will stimulate the body to start
healing itself. This stimulation helps get the blood flowing and helps the
body heal if there is a sickness within.
Garlic is a common herb used to treat almost any type of infection or to kill
harmful bacteria. If you have headaches caused by sinus infections, ear
infections or other common illnesses, garlic alone can do wonders to clear up
the problem, and it's even more effective when combined with Cayenne.
Sometimes headaches can be cured by treating other, apparently unrelated areas
of the body too. If your liver is not functioning normally, for instance, then
it's not clearing out the toxins and wastes well enough, and that leaves extra
poisonous toxins circulating in your body. Those extra toxins can cause
headaches and other illnesses. By using a liver boosting and healing herb such
as dandelion, you can help the liver functionality improve, which will
start removing the extra toxins in your body faster.
Don't forget that sometimes all you need to relieve your headache is extra
water. Too many people don't drink enough water, and headaches are a common
side effect of dehydration. So try drinking a tall glass of water and see if
that helps relieve the headache naturally.
