Natural Remedies for Fighting Infections
There are many herbal remedies which are natural antibiotics, antifungals and
antiseptics as well, all of which make them quite powerful for fighting
infections. Unlike prescription antibiotics, these infection fighting herbs do
not destroy the friendly bacteria in our bodies.
The main difference I've seen over the years between herbal antibiotics and
prescription ones is as follows:
Herbal antibiotics can take up to three days before the worst symptoms - such
as a fever - go away. But the infection is generally gone after 5-7 days and
it stays gone indefinitely.
Prescription antibiotics on the other hand, remove most of the major symptoms
of an infection within 24 hours. It's common for the fever to be gone for
instance, within a day or so of starting a synthetic antibiotic. Most need to
be taken at least ten days, however, and it's more common for the infection to
come back within 3-10 days at worst, a month at best. So a cycle of antibiotic
usage is often established, which can be quite frustrating for parents with
small children particularly, and after several months of this cycle your child
ends up looking very weak, pale and listless.
Here are some of the best herbal antibiotics:
Garlic - This is quite powerful all by itself as long as you're using real
garlic. Garlic contains a compound called Allicin. One milligram of Allicin
has the potency of 15 standard units of Penicillin. Allicin is what causes the
smell in garlic too though, so if you try using "odor free" garlic supplements
to treat an infection you will not likely have much success. Garlic works well
on almost any kind of infection, and is powerful against fungus growth too.
Garlic power is increased when mixed with Cayenne.
Goldenseal - This is another powerful herbal antibiotic that I always have on
hand. It works against almost any kind of infections, but it is a source of
natural insulin so be careful using it with hypoglycemics or anyone taking
insulin.
Echinacea - This is another natural antibiotic that works best on glandular
infections and problems such as ear aches, swollen lymph glands, and strep
throat.
Kelp - I use this specifically for strep throat. Kelp is naturally high in
iodine and iodine kills the strep bacteria. Instead of taking the pill form
alone, however, dissolve a kelp capsule in mug of hot tea or hot water, then
drink it. This allows the kelp to directly coat the throat and the
iodine will start killing the strep on contact. Drinking tea with kelp in it
is a bit gritty and nasty, but it has always worked for my children so they
agree to drink "nasty" stuff because they learned a long time ago that it
takes care of the problems quickly.
