Herbal Remedies for Kidney Problems
Some people are prone to getting frequent, recurring kidney infections or
stones. Kidney stones alone can be quite painful and any type of kidney
problems can cause problems for the entire body. The kidneys are primary
organs in our bodies that need to be healthy in order for us to stay alive.
Kidneys remove extra water and waste from our bodies by converting it to urine
and sending it through narrow tubes to the bladder for elimination. The
kidneys also help balance salts, build strong bones and help with the
formation of red blood cells.
Kidney stones are a chronic problem for many people and they're quite painful.
In fact, many people are bedridden when they get a kidney stone. Kidney stones
can develop for a variety of reasons, some of which are hereditary, but those
are rare. The most common form of kidney stones are calcium based and often
start as small crystal-like substances in the kidney or urinary tract. These
crystals clump together to form stones of various sizes.
Kidney infections often start in the bladder, travel up the narrow ureter
tubes to the kidneys and take root.
The best way to prevent, reduce or treat kidney related health problems is
with plenty of water or other fluids. Making sure you're getting enough water
will help prevent the crystals from clumping together into larger kidney
stones and water will also help flush bacteria and germs from taking hold in
the kidneys themselves, causing infections.
If you actually get kidney stones though, you can sometimes flush them out by
drinking additional water to help force them through the narrow ureter tubes,
into your bladder and out of your system. If the stones are too large to move
through those tubes however, you can often dissolve them with simple lemon
juice.
Squeeze a fresh lemon and drink the juice produced, or get some concentrated
real lemon juice and drink 2-3 ounces every hour until the pain is gone. Be
sure to follow the lemon juice with plenty of water to help it flush through
your system. If you have the more common calcium based kidney stones, the
lemon juice will often dissolve them within 5-15 hours.
For kidney infections, take an herbal antibiotic such as Goldenseal, Ginger or
Garlic along with plenty of water. You might also want to take a natural
diuretic such as Kelp to help flush the water through your system faster. Kelp
is high in potassium naturally too, so this herbal diuretic does not have the
same dangers of potassium depletion like prescription diuretics do.
