Herbal Remedies for the Kidneys and
Bladder
There are a variety of herbal remedies that help with a variety of kidney and bladder
problems. Some of these act as diuretics to help move fluid through the system
so wastes, toxins, and bacteria are removed more quickly. Moving fluids
through the urinary tract system also helps to prevent build up of crystals
which can create kidney stones.
Since moving fluids through the system is so important to flushing out the
bacteria and toxins, the first thing you should always do to help improve the
health of your kidneys and bladder is drink more water. Some types of juices
also help dissolve kidney stones, and drinking these each day can help prevent
them from forming as well. The two primary juices used for keeping your
kidneys healthy are lemon juice and cranberry juice.
Add a couple of ounces of real lemon juice to your morning tea or water, or
drink a glass of home made lemonade each day to help prevent the formation of
stones.
Here are several herbs which work particularly well for the kidneys and
bladder:
Juniper Berries - This is a natural diuretic that helps increase the flow of
urine and eliminate congestion from the kidneys and bladder. The oil of the
berries helps clear and heal the urinary passageways. This herb is beneficial
to the pancreas too.
Dandelion Root - This herb is high in vitamins and minerals, and helps balance
the nutrition in the blood. It's also an excellent herb to use when your blood
stream has become too acidic. This can often happen when people are trying to
lose weight, and dandelion helps destroy the extra acids in the blood stream.
Dandelion also cleanses the liver, and increases the activity of the pancreas
and spleen.
Uva Ursi - This is another herb particularly effective on kidney problems. It
stimulates the kidneys and strengthens and tones the urinary passages or
mucous membranes. It can act as a solvent for kidney stones, and cleanses and
strengthens the spleen too.
Parsley - Another often used remedy for kidney and bladder problems, parsley
is a natural diuretic that is high in potassium. As such it can be used much
more safely than synthetic diuretics and water pills.
Ginger - This is an herb often used in cooking for flavor, which has a
cleansing effect on the kidneys.
Kelp - Another herbal diuretic which is also quite high in potassium.
