Medicine Foods
Many people know this to one degree or another, but they don't always act on
the knowledge or use it to its fullest extent. Food is medicine. Or, more
correctly: The right food can be powerful medicine for the body. Anything we
put into our body has an effect of one kind or another. Junk foods, processed
foods, high sugar or chemical content foods... these all tend to have an
adverse effect on the health and wellness of our body. Good foods, though,
such as natural, raw fruits and vegetables, were given to us by Mother Nature.
Some of these are much more than excellent sources of vitamins and nutrition
though. Some in fact, can also help us fight a wide variety of illnesses, and
some may even prevent or cure diseases such as cancer.
A lot of research has gone into foods and our health in recent decades, and a
lot of people are finally coming to realize how important the foods we eat
actually are. Current estimates say that at least one third of American adults
will now try to treat their health concerns by using food. Instead of just
looking at how nutritious the foods are, though, or whether they are low in bad
fats, people have started looking at the bigger picture. They're now buying
foods which will help contribute to their overall health instead of looking
for one miracle food that's supposed to do everything.
The kinds of foods we eat play critical roles in how well our health and
wellness is maintained, but it is also critical for helping to prevent chronic
health problems, diseases and syndromes too. Scientists have started to take notice of how foods affect our health too. Numerous studies are being
conducted today about the various effects certain types of food have on the
human body, and even the National Cancer Institute of the United States now
lists certain foods as being possible cancer preventatives too.
For a long time, though, scientists were focused on trying to figure out what
key component gave a food item such healthy properties. They have finally
started realizing that there is no one miracle component. The best
health and wellness benefits from food come from a variety of components
within that food. Isolating just one thing won't give you the same results as
eating the whole food will. And this is why there are no miracle drugs or
vitamins on the market to buy. If you want the entire health benefits of
grapes for instance - which appear to be a strong anti-cancer food - then you
need to actually eat the grapes regularly.
There are also hundreds of studies which show that any one food by itself is
not always the best choice for optimal health either. Foods often work
together to help keep your body healthy or heal chronic diseases, so it is now
becoming much more apparent just how important eating a variety of healthy
things regularly is.
