More Miscellaneous Natural Remedies
Following up on our previous article about very useful, little known herbal
remedies that don't quite fit alone or with other topics, this article
contains another handful of little known remedies and herbal uses that can
sometimes come in handy for various things.
Removing Corns: To remove a corn from your foot, put a bit of olive oil on it
and cover the corn with a slice of raw garlic. Secure the garlic with a
bandage or tape, then leave it on overnight. Do this each night before bed
until the corn is gone.
Dandruff: To reduce dandruff problems, massage aloe vera into your scalp. Some
shampoos which contain aloe vera or jojoba can also help, but be aware of what
other chemicals are in the ingredients. Also take a zinc supplement - this
helps with bad body odor too - and additional Vitamins A and B.
Ear Aches - Use onion juice or garlic oil in the ear. Small slices of onion or
garlic can be placed into the ear as well, just be careful they don't get
stuck in place. Sometimes the onion or garlic can sting the sensitive skin
inside the ear, so it helps to wrap it in a small piece of tissue or cheese
cloth first, particularly for smaller children.
Ear wax - Put a several drops of peroxide into the ear and let it bubble for
several minutes, then turn your head over onto a tissue and let the excess
drain out. Alternatively you can use a small ear syringe to flush the ear with
peroxide.
Water retention - Take kelp or parsley, both of which are natural diuretics
which will not deplete your body of potassium.
Stomach gas - Chlorophyll will neutralize gas as well as bad breath and body
odors. You can take this in a capsule form, or by drinking green teas.
Peppermint and Spearmint will force gas out of the body, and are excellent for
use against colic in babies, or general tummy aches for small children.
Peppermint tea also helps with heartburn.
Hemorrhoids
can be shrunken and the pain relieved by applying either white
willow or white oak bark mixed with aloe vera juice.
For hoarseness or laryngitis, mix licorice root with water and drink it a few
times a day. Diabetics take care: Licorice root can raise your blood sugar
levels.
Restlessness or hyperactivity can be soothed and calmed by either Lobelia or
Valerian Root. Rub the liquid form of either one onto the shoulders and back
of the affected person for a soothing, calming effect, and to help them sleep.
