Herbal Teas

Herbal Tea is another very popular and effective health and wellness vice for thousands of people today. There is possibly an herbal tea that can be used for almost any type of ailment, but most people don't realize that since herbal tea doesn't come from the Camellia sinensis plant, they aren't technically "tea" at all.

Herbal tea is made from infusions of flowers, roots, spices and other plant materials, and the proper name for them is actually a tisane. The reason they're called tea is because they're often brewed in the same manner tea is brewed, and they are drank as a beverage for thirst, refreshment and health reasons.

Tea can be made from almost any type of herb, but not all of them taste good. In fact, the strongest medicinal herbs usually have the most bitter tastes to them, so it's usually a good idea to combine them with real Black or Green tea, or combine them with other herbs which have better tastes.

Goldenseal tea, for instance, is an excellent beverage to make which will help get a strong antibiotic into your body quickly. It's wonderful for treating throat problems this way, because it can bathe the throat as it is drank. The taste is horrible, though, so mixing it with regular Black tea can help mask that taste. You can mix it with green tea as well, but since Green tea has a milder flavor it doesn't often help much with masking the taste of the Goldenseal. More popular options are to mix it with lemon or orange flavored herb teas, because this helps subdue the taste best.

Kelp is another herb which works wonderfully as a tea, particularly for killing strep bacteria when someone has strep throat. It's quite gritty and bad tasting too, unfortunately, so again it helps to mix it with regular Black tea or more flavorful herbal teas.

Many types of herbal tea taste very good, though, and they can help with a variety of ailments and health problems. Peppermint or spearmint tea are a couple of favorites for instance, and these help with stomach gas, pains, and bloating.

Licorice Root is another herb many people like the taste of, and it's an excellent herb to use in tea form when you have a hoarse throat or laryngitis. Licorice raises your blood sugar levels, though, so be careful about drinking too much of it.

Lemon Balm is another type of herb from the mint family, and it also makes a delicious tea. This tea has small antibacterial properties to it, but it's more commonly used to reduce stress and create a relaxed feeling of calm and serenity. This herbal tea is also excellent to drink when you have a cold or the flu.
